چکیده
PurposeTo expand on our 2015 study of the nicotine content accuracy e-liquids, including salts, and presence child-resistant packaging. We also describe compounding in shop (CIS).Design methodsWe analyzed samples from 35 shops. CIS processing was observed. Descriptive statistics summarized data, inference performed.ResultsActual significantly less than identified content, average, with a mean percent deviation 34.0% below content. Only 3.8% samples' actual within 10% content; maximum 213.2%. Of eight uniquely packaged samples, designs resembling pop cans, ice cream cones, etc., −39.6%; none were Eight shops compounded samples. After removing outlier values, significant differences found deviations between non-CIS free-base A higher percentage had > above 10%. One visually estimated quantities to add, e-liquids not always relabeled reflect new levels, protective materials worn during compounding. Child-resistant packaging present for one third samples.ConclusionsLabeling remains inaccurate, is inconsistent, problematic. Effective e-liquid regulation needed protect public health.Practice implicationsNurses should educate families about serious health risks advocate increased regulations.

Nicotine Levels and Presence of Selected Tobacco-Derived Toxins in Tobacco Flavoured Electronic Cigarette Refill Liquids
BACKGROUND Some electronic cigarette (EC) liquids of tobacco flavour contain extracts of cured tobacco leaves produced by a process of solvent extraction and steeping. These are commonly called Natural Extract of Tobacco (NET) liquids. The purpose of the study was to evaluate nicotine levels and the presence of tobacco-derived toxins in tobacco-flavoured conventional and NET liquids. METHODS ...
متن کاملVariations in Label Information and Nicotine Levels in Electronic Cigarette Refill Liquids in South Korea: Regulation Challenges
BACKGROUND In South Korea, the consumption of liquid nicotine used in electronic cigarettes has dramatically increased from 4310 L in 2012 to 7220 L in 2013. This study aimed to examine the level of heterogeneity of contents of the labels and discrepancy of the nicotine content between that indicated on the label and the actual values for electronic cigarette liquid refill products in South Kor...

INTRODUCTION We evaluated the accuracy of nicotine concentration labeling on electronic cigarette refill products. METHODS The nicotine concentration of 71 electronic cigarette refill fluid products and 1 related do-it-yourself (DIY) product was quantified using high-performance liquid chromatography. Quantified data were compared with manufacturers labeled concentrations. Duplicate refill fl...

We analyzed 42 models from 14 brands of refill liquids for e-cigarettes for the presence of micro-organisms, diethylene glycol, ethylene glycol, hydrocarbons, ethanol, aldehydes, tobacco-specific nitrosamines, and solvents. All the liquids under scrutiny complied with norms for the absence of yeast, mold, aerobic microbes, Staphylococcus aureus, and Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Diethylene glycol, et...

To the Editor: Bassett et al. (June 5 issue)1 describe a case of a child who was poisoned by e-cigarette refill liquid. In California, we have also seen a dramatic increase in telephone calls to poison control centers because of exposures to nicotine solution; there were 35 total cases of exposure in the period from 2010 through 20122 and 105 cases in 2013 alone. In 2013, exposure to nicotine r...
